Cutting Tiger Woods Some Slack

Adweek Editor at Large

-By Mark Dolliver

Apparently there is forgiveness -- or, at least, forgetfulness. A Harris Poll last month asked, "Who is your favorite sports star?" Tiger Woods, whose sex life made him tabloid fodder last year, tied for No. 1 with Kobe Bryant. Also in the top 10: Derek Jeter, Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, LeBron James, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Woods was tops among male and Bryant among female respondents. In a breakdown by age, Bryant was No. 1 among 18-33-year-olds and 46-64s, while Favre was the favorite of 34-45s and Woods of those 65-plus.

A separate question asked people to pick their favorite female sports star. The Williams sisters came in first (Serena) and second (Venus). Danica Patrick finished third, trailed by Mia Hamm, Maria Sharapova, Anna Kournikova, Misty May, Shawn Johnson, Lisa Leslie and (tied for 10th place) Billy Jean King and Martina Navratilova.
